This week In IXD501 we ran over the modules for this semester. Daniel gave off a detailed overview of the deliverables for our final major project as well as a really helpful presentation on how to start thinking about ideas for the project.
We started off the lesson with a short task. Daniel gave us all an A3 sheet of paper and told us to draw 30 circles. With these 30 circles, he gave us 5 minutes to make as many ideas as possible. At the end of this, we talked about trends we noticed and how everyone utilised the space in and around the circles. This exercise was to open our minds to think outside the box and strategically consider things in different ways.
To kick start the module and warm us up for the major project ahead, Daniel set us a task to research, explore, ideate and develop a small product/service that would aid a specific problem in the work. This was a team project in which I paired up with 3 other guys in my class.
We had a range of topics to choose from but we landed on climate change as we all found it the most interesting. We used the remaining time in class on Tuesday to research an idea on the topic of climate change and started thinking of problems that we could solve.
The 4 of us in our team assigned ourselves jobs to do. I gained the role of exploring ideas, wireframing, and prototyping. whilst the other guys focused on research, user personas, empathy mapping, branding etc.
We are all currently working on this project and are due to present it on Tuesday the 4th of October.
I’m really glad Daniel has assigned us this little project before we start into the chaos that is the final year as I get to put some of my knowledge and skills gained from placement in Rapid7 to the test.
As well as working on this mini project, I am currently trying to figure out what I want to do for my final major project. I want to do something unique so I am taking my time to consider possible ideas. I want to have my idea ready in the next week or two so that I am more confident in the project ahead.
